Many from the area who stormed one of 5 beaches in Normandy, France on June 6th, 1944 – D-Day – never made it home, including the now-immortalized Bedford Boys. Two from the Roanoke area that did make it back from D-Day and other theaters of battle during World War Two are now “Hometown Heroes,” courtesy of the US Department of Justice.
