Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority Confirms Google is Considering Data Center in Wood Haven Technology Park

ROANOKE, VA—Today, Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility (WVRIFA) confirms Google is evaluating Wood Haven Technology Park as a potential location for a data center facility.

“Google has more than 20 years of experience responsibly building data centers and is proud of the relationships we’ve built in the Roanoke community since announcing our data center project in Botetourt County. We are committed to growing this collaboration as a long-term partner in the Roanoke Region,” said Clay Allsop, regional public affairs manager for Google. “We will continue our due diligence process on Wood Haven and keep the local community updated as more information is available.” The due diligence and inspection period at the Wood Haven site is continuing as scheduled and is expected to run through March 2027.

“We are proud to partner with Google to support jobs, strengthen the regional tax base, and fund community investment,” said John Hull, executive director of WVRIFA. “This is an exciting project that has the potential to bring additional, transformative investment to the entire region.”  The Wood Haven project first surfaced under the Clearview Dynamics name.Hull also says to the best of his knowledge the proposal for a data center at Wood Haven Technology Park does not mean Google is pivoting away from building one or more on the Greenfield campus in Daleville – where site prep work is already underway despite protests from local residents and groups opposed to data centers in general.
